Consultation

1 First Trimester of Pregnancy

Acupuncture is performed weekly up until 12 weeks to help prevent miscarriage, improve microcirculation to uterus and ovaries, possible nausea (1), possible stress and anxiety (1).

2 Second Trimester of Pregnancy

After 12 weeks of pregnancy acupuncture is usually performed every 3-4 weeks to assist maintaining a healthy pregnancy and help with any possible musculoskeletal discomforts such as back or pelvic pain (1). If you have any other symptoms during this period, acupuncture may also be increased to weekly.

3 Third Trimester or Pre-induction

Acupuncture is performed at weeks 32, 34, and 36 as pre induction, to assist with position of the baby and getting mum and bub ready for birth.

4 Induction

Acupuncture is performed at weeks 37, 38, 39, and finally 40 weeks. Depending on each case and whether there are any other symptoms such as malposition of fetus, back or pelvic pain (1), acupuncture may be performed more frequently, though it is usually unlikely. We also teach mothers, partners or friends, acupressure for reduction of labour pain. (1)

5 Post Birth

Acupuncture can assist with post partum depression (2) and often the use of Chinese herbs are integrated as a compliment to treatment.
